It looks like Xiaomi with its Redmi series of phones are on a roll with launches happening every month. In India Xiaomi launched their Redmi 6 Pro smartphone along with its siblings, the Redmi 6 and 6A in September and not even three months have passed, leaks of its successor, the Redmi 7 Pro have emerged. Last week three smartphones with codenames M1901F7E, M1901F7T and M1901F7C made their way to TENNA which are speculated to be the Redmi 7A, Redmi 7 and the Redmi 7 Pro respectively.
Talking about the Redmi 7 Pro, TENNA hasn’t revealed a lot of details but what has emerged is rather an incremental update over the Redmi 6 Pro, which is kinda disappointing since the 6 Pro wasn’t a hit in the markets.
According to the TENNA listings, Redmi 7 Pro is supposed to have the same dimensions and display while the later getting a waterdrop styled notch; an improvement over the iPhone X lookalike. The screen is said to remain the same resolution with Full HD+ and a 5.84″ IPS panel.
The cameras are also of the same resolution in the back with a 12MP main sensor while the additional depth sensor isn’t listed yet but it’s hard to not be anything but the 5MP one we’re seeing on most smartphones by Xiaomi in the budget category. The front camera is said to be getting a boost with an 8MP sensor behind the waterdrop notch. So selfie fans, cheer up!
What really disappoints is the reduction in Battery capacity by a whopping 27.5%; from a mammoth 4000mah cell, for which the Redmi series was acclaimed for, to a 2900mah power pack. Wonder how that’ll pay off even with MIUI’s optimisations going for it.
If you think disappointments end there, laughs on you! Even at the end of 2018, probably 2019 first quarter when this phone will arrive. Xiaomi is launching the Redmi 7 Pro with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box with their MIUI 10 skinned over it. Even though Android Pie is around for a few months now, going with Oreo is such a sad move.
With that said, TENNA listing also shows the possibility of a 6GB RAM variant with a whopping 128GB internal storage version existing along with the standard 3/32 and 4/64 variants. No word about the name of the chipset is mentioned anywhere but it is suggested that it is an octa-core processor, clocked at 2.3Ghz.
Wrapping all up, it doesn’t seem like Xiaomi is going to price the Redmi 7 Pro much higher than the Redmi 6 Pro with the minor improvements. So according to guesses, it might just start at Rs. 11,999 for the lowest end variant with the higher Ram-storage prices going up.
